Devastated by an earthquake in 1931, Napier was rebuilt in Art Deco style and many of the original buildings have been recently restored to their original state, making the
Art Deco Walk a must do visitor attraction.
Tours to the gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers, one of only 2  on-shore colonies in New Zealand, is a popular trip (from October to April), especially on old tractors and trailers along the beach!  Gannet Beach Adventures
Hawkes Bay is also famous for it's 80+ Vineyards
(A  'Grape Escape' Wine Tour is a great way to spend half a day) and in recent years Olive trees have been planted, making Olive Oil a welcome addition to Hawkes Bay's bountiful fruit and vegetable production.
Hawkes Bay is justifiably known as
'The Fruit Bowl of New Zealand'.
I use local and organic produce as much as possible in The Green House kitchen.
There is a wide variety of cafes and restaurants within walking distance and the beach is only a few minutes away.
